Oil Pastels

Oil Pastels

Did you know that Sennelier oil pastels were created for Picasso's needs?

It all started in 1949. Picasso, the famous artist, asked Gustave Sennelier to create a wax chalk... but with many conditions! Without any constraint related to other techniques, this chalk should adhere to all types of supports and require no preparation. Gustave Sennelier then developed the oil pastel sticks. All he had to do was add a fixative to obtain the Sennelier oil pastels we know today.

Gustave Sennelier was satisfied to have met the needs of such a prestigious client, but he had no idea that oil pastels would become an emblematic product of the brand.

Sennelier quality oil pastels

Sennelier oil pastels benefit from the brand's own qualities: high quality pigments, a very pure binder and a mineral wax. In addition to these considerable advantages, Sennelier oil pastels have a high pigment concentration. This gives them a strong coloring power, tonicity of tones, and a very good resistance to light.

Thanks to their unique characteristics, Sennelier oil pastels are a reference, recognized worldwide.
